Description: Join us for 6 nights at Santa Cruz Forest Reserve, and 4 additional nights at the Madre Selva Biological Station. Trips average over 100 species of reptiles and amphibians, along with pink and gray river dolphins, marmosets and other small mammals, numerous birds and fantastic arthropods.
Cost: $1860 (1st time adult rate). Rates include include airport reception and drop-off, 1 night hotel in Iquitos, all meals, lodging and fees at field stations, river and ground transportation and guides. Repeat client rate is $1660 (adult). Discounted rates available for teens (ages 13-18: $1300) and pre-teens (age 12 and under: $900).
Itinerary: Includes the Madre Selva Biological Station (Orosa River, south bank tributary of the Amazon), and the Santa Cruz Forest Reserve (Mazan River-north of the Amazon and west of the the Napo River). The two sites are separated by a major biogeographical barrier (the Amazon River) which adds considerable additional diversity of reptiles and amphibians (and birds) over what would be seen at just one site.
15 Jan 2020 (Wed) - Participants should arrive in Iquitos by 5 PM or on an early flight the following morning. Overnight in Iquitos at standard hostal (fans in rooms, but no A/C) and welcome dinner included).
16 Jan 2020 (Thu) - Transfer to port of Iquitos at 9 AM with travel via speedboat to Madre Selva Biological Station (4-5 hours). Next 4 nights spent at Madre Selva.
20 Jan 2020 (Mon) - AM travel from Santa Cruz to Madre Selva Biological Station (~4 hours). Next 6 nights at Santa Cruz.
26 Jan 2020 (Sun) - Early AM travel from Santa Cruz back to Iquitos (2 hours) with arrival by ~ 10 AM. Participants free to depart Iquitos for onward destinations from 2 PM onward.
