Our Thanks and offer of Discounts to Essential Workers & First Responders (scroll down)

About Covid-19 in the Amazon: Feb 2023 - Covid-19 devastated Peru and the entire Amazon region during 2020 and 2021. The situation is dramatically different now, with >90% of Peruvians now vaccinated and boosted (considerably exceeding the rates in most other countries). As of 12 October 2022, Peru no longer requires masks on flights and in public buildings, banks or stores. All restrictions on group activities have also been lifted.

About 15% of adult Peruvians are employed in tourism-related activities, so Peru is working hard to make visitation safe and easy. In 2023, MT Amazon Expeditions has a full slate of trips scheduled, but we want to do so in a safe and responsible way that protects not only our clients, but also our employees and the Peruvian population with which we may come in contact.

Although the pandemic may be essentially over, Covid and its ever-evolving variants is still with us. As such, we encourage all travelers to follow current (and future) CDC guidelines for preventing spread of the virus, including (where and when appropriate) mask-wearing, social distancing, and frequent hand-washing. We also very strongly recommend that only persons who are fully vaccinated, and boosted consider international travel.

The only Peruvian Covid requirement currently in place is the presentation of proof of vaccination (2 shotes plus booster) OR the negative results of a Covid-19 PCR test taken taken within 48 hours of travel.

Measures that we will be taking to protect everyone include:

  • following all Peruvian national and local guidelines for preventing the spread of Covid-19; including following CDC guidelines

  • enhanced sanitation measures, including available hand sanitizer, abundant soap, and limiting non-essential contacts to the extent possible.

Our offer to, and appreciation of Essential Workers and First Responders

We want to recognize and honor all of the essential workers and first responders out there who have been overworked, under-appreciated and over-stressed during the pandemic. As such, we are pleased to offer them our repeat client rate on all trips through the end of 2023. If you are already a repeat client, we’ll give you an additional $100 discount. This is our thanks to you, and our recognition of all that you do. Qualifying individuals include:

  • nurses, doctors, hospital workers, paramedics, nursing home workers, home-care providers, mental health care providers, crisis intervention workers, and those who provide services to homeless, hungry, and at-risk groups of people

  • educators at all levels (kindergarten, primary, secondary, college/university)

  • others working in public education, including zoo, museum, state and national park employees

  • essential workers including grocery and pharmacy workers, janitors, bus & train drivers

  • US Postal Service employees

  • law enforcement, fire-fighters, active and former service members, and other first responders

  • If you don’t fall into one of the above categories and/or if the stock market has particularly blessed you during the past few tough years, we encourage you to make a generous charitable contribution to Project Amazonas (www.projectamazonas.org). All donations will go to Covid-19 relief in the Amazon.
